Hidden Fees

It has been a very long while since I have made a post, wondering if I should just abandon the blog all together and keep on keeping on with the craziness that is surrounding my spirit.

HIDDEN FEES the subject at hand. This is the hot topic because my husband and I just celebrated our 1 year anniversary and we took a long weekend trip to Miami. A great place to have fun, drink, eat, relax, people watch…. and spend more money than ever intended AKA raped.

I searched and searched for the greatest hotel, price matching and comparing and reading fine print and reviews. I googled, and I price lined, and I checked my travel mags and zagat mags. Because, i was going to find the best value for my buck. I was going to stay on budget, I was going to have a frugal vacation…. Yeah right.

First, we arrive at our amazingly beautiful hotel. (Hotel Urbano) Well, as soon as I pull the car up to check in a very fast and courteous man greets my husband and I, quick to help with baggage and produces a valet tag and a quick, that will be $29.00 a day for valet parking, thank you and vroom vroom, off he goes… uh wha.. wait…

Speaking to the front desk clerk, we ask her about the fee and if we could park somewhere else, for that would have been an extra $100 dollars we were not prepared to spend on just parking.  well… you could park on the street.. but don’t park here, here, or there because they will tow you. Or you could try to find parking over here… but just make sure that you read the signs very carefully.

Yeah okay.

Every restaurant already adds a surcharge of 18% tip and you have to carefully read your ticket or you wont see it and then give them another 18% or so again. That really isn’t the bad thing, the thing is the service in Miami sucks. They serve you like it is an inconvenience for them to be doing their job, so I am paying 18% if I like it or not for crappy service. Which is fine, to some degree, when I’m on vacation just trying to have a good time, drunk and hung over, but there are times when it is just unacceptable.

taxi cab rides… there is the normal fare.. but then once you get to your destination there is an extra dollar surcharge.

Miami is the one the city that you really do not get what you pay for… you pay for whatever they want to give you…

Besides hidden fees and horrible service though Miami is a unique and entertaining experience. An experience you must have at least once in your life. Just be prepared to understand how their city operates and don’t expect much for hospitality and you will have an amazing time.. especially shopping.

Something to do

I have not even attempted making, creating, sewing, inventing anything in last few weeks since my brothers wedding! I have however begun “working on my fitness!”
I have recently been bitten by the project bug and have my head full of ideas!
I bought a crochet needle and yarn last night! I have been seeing all of these fabulous toys, blankets and everything else yarn and needle that I HAD to buy a something to practice on. I haven’t crocheted since I was… let’s just say a very, very long time ago! And, the great thing about knitting and crochet is that it is pretty cheap! One trip to Joannes and $5 bucks later I was ready to get my fingers twisted up in yarn!

And, I can also, watch tv and pay attention to my son and the puppies while I knit at the same time! haha! I can even crochet at work or in the car as I wait for KeVaughn to finish skateboarding! And, should I become ambitious enough I could make a blanket or whatever they are called to keep warm… because I live in Florida but it is FREEZING!!!!

Post pics soon!

More travel deals… skiing anyone?

It is that time of year when the kids will be out of school and looking for something to get into. My family has been trying to plan a ski trip of our own, but wanted to wait until Feb. when the prices go down. But after looking at some of these great prices we may not have to.

We all need to get-away sometimes….

In keeping my promise of trying to be frugal and helping others to be, I get this weekly email that tells me the best travel deals for the week! I have found some really, really great deals too! My husband and I are really planning at least two BIG trips this year and Ireland is on the top of the list. Round trip tickets to Dublin starting at $450… and all-inclusive deals for $700 a person. I can’t go to Disney anymore without shelling out a few grand… and Ireland just sounds so much GRANDER!!!

Frugal Black Fridays

Now, I did mention that the definition of frugal is to not be wasteful… but in my opinion it also means getting the best deal. I ran across this article today on and thought Holy crap great deals are a coming! Target is having $3 appliances and some really great low prices on the stuff we all want but don;t really need, but if we have to have it, then why not get it at a killer price!

Happy shopping!

Tuesday to do do

Well, it has offically been two weeks since my husband left on business. I have started so many projects to keep me busy and even finished a long to-do list. I do still have a few things to accomplish and a few that I need him to help me finish. But it amazing how much one can accomplish without the distractions of your mate.

Things I have finished:

1. The wreath on the front door. Even got it hung up!

2. I ordered the prints for my picture frames from my wedding (6 months ago) and hung them all up!

3. I ended up buying curtains instead of making them. For now it was the better deal and the bonus of this and what I am most proud of myself for, is that I found bamboo rods at Michaels and used them, instead of getting real curtain rods, for a fraction of the price. I couldn’t find a decent Curtain rod for less than $20 each. Well I got 3 Bamboo rods for $5 a piece and they bring an earthiness to the house that I love!

4. I Finished and mailed those shower invites.

5.  I found that stupid King size bed frame I had been looking for and after many failed attempts was able to locate at my favorite GoodWill and so the Bed is finally off the floor and looks half way decent. This was also a bargain $15 vs, the cheapest I could find on craigslist or other of $55.

6. I stopped and bought a few pumpkins for decoration of the front porch. Also, my dearest sweet mother chipped in a bought a few mums and other flowers to spruce up the Front of the house! Which was much needed.

7. I found the perfect fabric for that chair I have been dieing to re-upholster and the fabric was $13.  – Just need to re-upholster now!

Man… after I list them all out it doesn’t seem to be all that much. The biggest problem is the time to do it. I work til 5 I don’t get home til 5:30 then I have to get the dogs walked usually 30 min to an hour and then still cook and then I am playing taxi to KeVaughn and so I have maybe 2 hours to craft or hobby or whatever before I am HIT hard by the Sand man.. haha And, then to throw a curve ball Elijah is back in the hospital which is 45 min to an hour away I have to visit him once or twice a week or go through withdrawals and plus it keeps his Mom from turning  into a nut job… so when I do that, like I did yesterday I can pretty much forget about planning anything else after that!

Tonight my sister with the eye for detail is coming over to help me put final touches on my house so that it looks wonderful for Emily’s shower. Which I am hoping to hear from everyone, no RSVP’s yet… but I’m not going to worry until this weekend then I will start making arrangements for replacement guests… j/k… kinda…

Then I received the good news that Mr.Wonderful will be returning on the 3rd of November. Which is perfect, because I have a small lists of things that I need him to finish before I have a bunch of people in the house.

With just a few to-do’s left I’m getting excited for the 6th of Novemeber

1. practice cupcake recipes to find the right one for shower.

2. Finish making favors for guests.

3. wrap the last present.

4. final touches for decor.

Thats it! I love being prepared for parties.. takes the stress away!

ADHD and sleeping or lack there of….

This article provides some good information on sleep deprivation and ADHD or maybe masked symptoms of both.

And, to continue with being frugal… While speaking to my sons Doctor about some of his issues.. He told me that there is a pharmacy that provides discounted medications to people like me who supposedly make TOO much money.. But I can’t afford health insurance for my son and I seem to always to never have extra money. I’m sure that it is for all types of people. But if anyone is in my same boat… maybe worth finding out if there is one of these in your city as well.
